Before Resetting a Linger Chat, Decide What You Need to Keep

Choose between preserving a history copy, starting fresh, deleting an account and stopping a renewal in MindCraftAI's Linger Android app.

Before resetting a Linger conversation, decide whether your aim is a new topic, a saved copy of the past or removal of account data. Those goals need different actions. If the aim is to stop future subscription charges, manage the Google Play renewal separately.

The MindCraftAI app’s store description mentions history reset, deletion and export. We have not opened those controls in an installed account, so this guide does not promise exact labels, an export format or recovery after a reset. Use the confirmation shown in your version as the decisive description of the action.

Choose the smallest action that solves the problem

A conversation that has become repetitive does not necessarily need an account deletion. A clear message that begins a new subject may be enough for your immediate purpose.

Use this decision tree before changing records:

  • I want a different subject: try a short new-topic instruction first.
  • I want to keep a conversation outside the app: inspect the available export option and store the result privately.
  • I want the current conversation to start over: read the reset confirmation and decide what to preserve beforehand.
  • I want the operator to remove account data: use the current account-deletion or data-request process.
  • I want to stop paying: check Google Play subscriptions under the purchasing account.

These categories can overlap. You may want both an export and a deletion, but the order matters: preserve the copy you actually want before removing access to it.

Decide what is worth keeping

An entire transcript can contain more personal information than you intend to preserve. Consider whether a small note would serve the purpose instead: the fictional scene you enjoyed, a conversation preference or a creative idea in your own words.

If you use an export, inspect the resulting file. Check that it opens, contains the material you expected and does not include unrelated information you overlooked. Do not assume that a file’s name proves its contents are complete.

Store the copy somewhere appropriate for its sensitivity. Exporting adds another copy; it does not erase the original or make an account more private. A file synchronized to a shared folder may have a different audience from the conversation inside the app.

Keep local history separate from server-side records

The linked developer privacy policy describes chat history on the device and possible server-side summaries for context. This means “I removed the visible conversation” and “all related records have been removed” should not be treated as the same claim.

The policy also describes different retention for account information, summaries, subscription records and diagnostics. It states a deletion period for summary data after account deletion; that is a developer policy statement, not an individual deletion outcome verified by this guide.

If a particular category matters to you, ask about it specifically. “Does deleting this account remove its server-side conversation summary?” is clearer than “Will everything disappear?” Keep the request through the official developer channel and avoid sending more private conversation content than necessary.

Read the confirmation before a reset

Pause on the actual reset or deletion screen. Look for the object being changed: one conversation, all history on the device or the account itself. If the wording is unclear, cancel out and resolve the uncertainty first.

Do not assume that reinstalling the app will bring back a conversation. We have not verified Linger’s synchronization or recovery behavior. Similarly, do not use an uninstall as a way to test deletion if preserving the record matters to you.

For a planned fresh start, save only the brief continuity you want to carry forward. A compact note such as “fictional harbor scene; short dialogue; the map has not been opened” can be easier to use than reintroducing an entire transcript.

Finish the payment task separately

Google Play states that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. If you no longer want Premium to renew, check the purchasing Google Account and keep the cancellation confirmation.

Removing an account association inside an app should not be used as evidence that the store has stopped renewal. Verify the subscription state at the store. The Linger cancellation guide explains that sequence.

The useful finish is a clear record of what you chose: what you kept, what action you confirmed and whether a separate renewal remains. That is more reliable than treating every “fresh start” action as interchangeable.
